Putting The Holiday Away

A few years ago I started condensing all my holiday decorations into plastic tubs.  Some are limited to one tub and I plan to keep it that way.  My Christmas and Fall/Halloween tubs however are another story!

I gathered all the smaller things and loaded up the table with them.  I emptied anything I hadn't used for the holiday this time and put everything on the table so I could do some editing.  All the little things get put in some kind of protective plastic.  I chose a couple of things to give donate because the pile was too big for the container.  As you can see my assistant Teddy was ready to jump in and help!

I keep the silk florals in a different area and table linens go in their own area too so I didn't have to try and fit them in here.  It's my goal to keep the patriotic pile just big enough to fit in here and no more!  Gee if I could only convince myself to do that with my Christmas and Fall/Halloween stuff!

Put away for another year!  That's my St. Patrick's Day tub and Valentine's Day tub to the right.

I had my patriotic decorating up since late May so I'm ready to move onto another look!

I'm plotting ideas for the little table and plate rack.   I snapped a shot of a store magazine because I was inspired by this table with the metal pitcher on plates.  We'll see what I come up with!

What are you up to with your holiday deco and how do you store it?

  1. Hi Liz, I did this Tuesday and use tubs too, Patriotic is the less for me so I only needed a plastic bag. Some holidays are one tub but Christmas is another story for me too. All the tubs are labeled and in the attic. Except for certain decor and candles that can not be in the heat. The attic is full!!!
Love the inspiration pic you share. Have fun pulling the look together.

  2. Can't wait to see what your next move is. I want to use plastic tubs but my hubby says clear plastic bags and some labeled boxes. He carries everything now so I figure, his way is fine

  3. Liz, you are so organized. I admire your desire to keep only what will fit into one container. I do a similar thing with our seasonal decor, but it's not labeled so nicely as yours. We have been getting rid of a lot of things as well and it sure feels good to do so. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next. P.S Your assistant is lovely! ♥

  4. I have done a lot of downsizing, but need to do more with my Fall and Christmas decor. I'll be moving to a house with no basement for the first time in my life, when we move to Florida. You are very impressive with your organization.

  5. Out of curiousity Would you be willing to divulge how many tubs/bins you have for Halloween and Christmas? I'm trying to prove to my husband I'm NOT a hoarder! LOL

    1. I think there is about 35 tubs for Christmas. Some are permanent storage with kids ornaments etc. I believe I have 4 large ones for fall/halloween. I couldn't reply to your email (no-reply blogger) so I hope you come back and read this here.

  6. Liz, you seem to have the perfect system going. Hopefully, I can edit my Christmas decor down this year. My daughter has already asked for some it for her new place. I will happily oblige her!

  7. Liz,
Dear friend, you and I have a similar system!
I, also , use plastic tubs stored on metal shelving within Studio One.
Each year, I, too, edit and donate decor items.
Once a year, over the past three years, "Mr. Ed" and I have held Garage $ales
which is a h u g e help in eliminating unused decor and household items!
One main difference, dear one, there is no assistant such as your sweet Teddy to help!
Yesterday, I took down all the Fourth of July decor.
Today, I replaced it with my Summer decor!
    Fondly,
    Pat
