Ruby "40 Years" (T)

We celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday.  Our daughter arranged to have this bouquet of 40 roses delivered that day also!

I decided to play up the "ruby" red coloring which is the traditional gift for the 40th Wedding Anniversary.  The flatware is our wedding set from 1978.  Perfect time to use it again!

The ruby red glasses have cherries on them which I bought for the symbolism of our area being the largest tart cherry producer in the country.  The fleur de-lis cups mixed well with dishes.

I chose the charger and dinner plate for their understated earthy colors that go well with the tablecloth.

I chose the antiqued metal napkin rings to pair up with the flatware.  The napkins came from my mother's table linens and I'm sure they are at least 50 years old now.

A table set with love and sentiment!

We had some of the most grueling weather all weekend which put a damper on our day but receiving the lovely roses perked it up a lot so of course I had to set a table with them!

Hard to believe we've been married this long- so much has happened yet time sure has flown by!

Last Thursday Dan popped in with the largest bundle of flowers I've ever gotten from him!  I love the cheerful colors and I couldn't get another stem in there!  What a great pick-me-up!

Sunshine and Spring Dreams!

Boy the sun has been just shining like crazy today
and I couldn't be happier!

Sitting here in my office admiring that blue sky and sun!

I got to thinking about springtime, apple and cherry blossoms and then I saw a picture with some white orchids.   I remembered that I had a bunch of silk orchid pieces in storage.

I divided them up and filled these pedestal vase containers.

I bought them at Pier 1 many years ago.  They've been in and out of my decorating several times.
I just looked at their web page and I see they have them in again. Oncidium Orchid

Too bad I can't open the window for fresh air!  It's actually only 19 degrees right now and it was -6 this morning!
No matter....I'm loving the sun!

The roses I showed you in my Romantic Vignette with Roses post the other day are at their best and I've prepared a new
tablescape with them!  I'll be back with that soon!

Valentine Sweetness

Roses, Wine, Chocolates, and the color Red
all speak Valentine's Day to me!

In Sept. 2010 I created this rose and artichoke topiary which I blogged about "here"   I pulled it out of storage and pinned these red hearts onto it for my Valentine's centerpiece.

Last year I picked up these Juliska heart shaped dishes on a sale.  The fleur-de-lis glass plates came from Dillard's during one of their clearance sales and the red & green tartan dishes were on clearance at Cracker Barrel in December.
I definitely didn't imagine using them for a Valentine's table, but they gave me the kind of countryesque look I wanted.

I saw this sweet Love Letter Pocket bag made by Kathy's Creative Home Expressions blog.  I visited her Etsy page and had to have it.  I tied it to the chair and added some roses.

I've set out this sweet port style wine which is lovely paired with appetizers or desserts such as chocolates or brownies.

I elevated the topiary and added a lace doily.
The napkins are covered in hearts and I chose to set them in the stemware for added height.

I added these little birds to represent "love birds"

I dressed out this chocolate brown candle with a ribbon and a napkin ring

A cute find at Hobby Lobby

A few sweets for the soul!

Whimsical Valentine Birthday!

Happy Valentines Day!

Welcome to my
Whimsical Valentine Birthday table!

I've got two birthdays and Valentines
Day all within 7 days of each other!
Today is hubby's birthday so I made
his favorite German Chocolate Cake
I used a 6" cake pan and made
3 layers
Cupid has landed and is taking
a brief rest...All of his romantic
hearts and jewels are scattered
about
and he's content to rest
among them.
 This red ankle boot is
decked out with shiny baubles
I used tissue paper to fill in the
boot and help highlight it's shape
and to hide a small vase for
the flowers
Baby's Breath, White Tulips
and Red Roses
A mercury glass stemmed candle holder
adds a little romance and glitz
I used my ruby red water
goblets with my crystal wine
glasses from Mikasa
 Some whimsically printed napkins
folded under a clear salad plate that is
surrounded with fanciful glass marbles
This Baroque flatware from
Neiman Marcus adds to the romantic
ambiance...I love the delicate edge
on these Ralph Lauren Sophia
dishes (found them at T.J.Maxx)
I wanted to keep this a bit delicate and to keep the softness of the whites
going, so I chose not to use a charger
or a placemat.
The table runner was from Home Goods
I folded it in the center to shorten it and used the square mirror to hide the fold.
The tablecloth was from T.J.'s last year.
It's simple, a little whimsical
and a touch romantic!
 Hmm...I forgot to put out
the wine!
 Daylight has slipped away and
it's time for dinner... can't wait
to try the cake!
Thanks for visiting!
