Happy Birthday Sis!

Tomorrow is my sister Jen's birthday.
I decided to throw a party for her although she is about 250 miles south of me and really can't be here for it- so we'll pretend!

There are 4 of us sisters so I'm going to pretend we're all here celebrating together.

I wanted something fairly feminine so I chose this ruffled edge placemat to go with these scalloped edge dishes and a dainty embroidered floral napkin.

The mini cloche's make such a cute display and the curly ribbon added some more birthday flair!

I'm no good at cake decorating but I did manage
to add these little candy pearls.  I got smart (for a change) and dumped them in a bowl and just dipped the cupcake upside down into it and like magic they're decorated!!

More curly ribbons!

Time to celebrate!

Kitchen- In the Wee Small Hours of the morning

Not long ago I posted about an inspiratoin picture that led me to decorate by my kitchen window area  "here"
There was a lamp on the counter in that same picture that inspired me to
bring a lamp into my kitchen area.

This was the only area a lamp could go because of my small tv just to the left. Wish I could hide the cord better but it's just not possible.
I'm a big fan of accent mood lighting (I'm using a 25 watt bulb) and I love how it makes the pears look.  In the evening when it's it provides just enough light to come out to the kitchen without needing much more.

This cast iron urn was black when I got it.  I used a bronze spray paint with whisps of antique gold because the black wasn't doing it for me.

This lamp was another find at a store going out of business back around 2010.  I loved the lemons immediately and the faux finish makes it look like marble.  It's been in storage for a bit but I really wanted to bring it back so I'm glad that picture gave me some inspiration to try this.

I have a tiny kitchen 12 x 8
We remodeled in 1996.  I drew up the layout for the kitchen.  I had lived with this kitchen long enough to know the changes I wanted.  The sink used to be in the corner but I never liked it there and the dishwasher was at the end just to the right of the corner sink which I never liked.  It made me feel trapped when it was open.  I wanted some glass doors so I put them at the end to be a focal point- almost like a china hutch.  I chose water glass to diffuse the view.  Later on we added under cabinet lighting.

I showed you my window vignette at the beginning of the month.  I did
add some wooden spoons to the green pitcher which I like better now.

I don't have appliance garages nor the room to hide them so these evryday items are all on my counter.  I grind my coffee every morning.

A little bit of Tuscany
Found this at Home Goods a few years ago

I got the idea to leave a stack of dishes on the counter from that inspiration photo too.

The frame was from T.J. Maxx and I ordered the print from
one of those on line poster companies.

There's only 4 ft. between the counters.  I always say it's a one butt kitchen!
I chose to make my corners square vs angled to keep it feeling as large as possible.  10 years after the new kitchen installation we changed the laminate countertops to corian.  At the time the granite had risen to an all time high and we couldn't justify it.  We replaced the appliances with stainless steel ones and I picked out the stove because it had a nice flat front, no handles sticking out to eat up any space- same with the micorowave.  I finally got a counter depth refrigerator to help with space.

The basket is my catch-all for mail etc.

So that's my kitchen, in the Wee Small Hours of the Morning
Yes I am an early riser!

The Den is Done

Last August I did a post explaining how we had helped our daughter with moving into her new rental house.  She was moving into a home that was large enough to be able to use her bedroom furniture so this room got emptied.  That post can be seen "here".
I had updated the bedroom in 2012 and posted about "here" .

You can see where all this furniture came from in this post "here" that
included pictures of the family room.

Our bedrooms are small.  It was a tight fight but we did it!  The feet had to come off and we had to carefully (persuade) maneuver the sections through the door opening and they were heavy.

The tv also came from the family room. We ended up mounting it on the wall even though I had a cabinet for it, but we couldn't fit it in.
I want to remove the little chair rail  piece we added about 20 yrs. ago, but when we did it in the other bedroom it took a lot of drywall patching and I wasn't prepared to go to that length just yet.  We can't run the cable through the wall because below this room is a finished basement area with drywall.

My handy husband found these flexible plastic strips to cover up the cable and electric cord and then painted them to match the wall.  (They are found in the electrical section at the stores)  He pre-painted them before he put them up.
Thank goodness we saved the leftover paint!

This storage box was part of my nautical room downstairs and I thought I'd give it a try as base for a coffee table.  I had a round piece of glass I was going to put on top but I never got around to it.

This coffee table is actually a bench.  It's low and fits well next to the sectional.
Eventually we hope to replace this old carpet too.

The storage box ended up in this little spot by the closet.  I have an inflatable bed for extra guests and it fit nicely in the box except it was too tall so I draped the
afghan over it.  We used it once already.  I just slid the coffee table over to the closet and the bed fit next to the sectional  perfectly.

The afghan and the two inner pillows were part of the bedroom setup before.

The aqua striped pillows were on
clearance at Pier 1

The jellyfish and coral pillows were from One King's Lane

I lucked out on this picture from Pier 1-  marked down 70%
last year

This picture was a find at a store going out of business about 3 to 4  yrs. ago and was still wrapped in the paper I brought it home in.  I hadn't been able to find a spot for it until I converted this room.  The color of the 2nd matting nearly matches the wall color which I found interesting.
There was no name or info so I did some lighthouse research and figured out it is the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse located in Pemaquid Point, ME
It's not a normal perspective that you see of that lighthouse so it took me a bit to figure it out.

I had recently taken these sconces down that were by my china cabinet and I decided to give them a try next to this picture.  I found some dried grasses I had in storage to add to them.  I thought about antiquing them in white but I chickened out in case I ever want to use them in a different setting and the white might not be what I'd want.

This pillow is from Pottery Barn from several years back.  I think it's one of those indoor/outdoor ones.  I always liked the scene on it.

This table also came up from the downstairs family room.  The two bronze cranes came from Bombay back in the day before they closed.  I made up the glass hurricane with the seashells and rope and blogged about it "here"
The lamp stayed with the room after we moved the bedroom furniture out.

I posted about this lantern I put together "here"
It ended up in this tray below as a tabletop accent. The kitty and the textured candle holder were part of the old bedroom set up too!
It's hard to get a full picture of this room.  I'm in  the hallway taking these.  It's only about 11'6" in length by 9' wide

My goal was to use as many things that I already had.   A couple of things
were purchased but overall I did achieve my goal.
So there you have it- The Den is Done!

Plantes Fleurs

~Plants Flowers~

Found this cute little tin at Michaels.

I knew I had some miniature potted silk plants at home and I figured they might just fit in it.  I was doing some laundry and I decided I'd go ahead and put this together.

Messy!!  LOL...
I really do need a better "craft" room!
I could only get two in there but that's ok!
I stuffed some moss in there for filler and bam I'm done!

I tried this up on the plate rack but the tulips were too tall so
for now their residing here.

I seem to have a spring garden in bloom already!

I pulled out some small cookbooks and stacked them in a basket and
plunked down my rooster with the antique bowl full of pine cones.
These are cookbooks I picked up at specialty shops, craft shows, or church bazaars.

It's been a beautiful day- full of sun and temps
in the upper 30's.  For us that's a nice warm up- anything above
freezing is a good thing!

See out there by the bird feeders? Dan went out there and had to dig out the snow because it was getting so high the squirrels were almost able to jump up to the bird feeders.  Don't worry they get plenty of fallout that's on the ground.

I hope your day has been great too!
