Sunday Breakfast and Dinner!

I used my recent floral arrangement to be a sort of backdrop to my
Sunday Breakfast Table

A little Hen (Hobby Lobby) sits perched
on a square granite trivet.

A serving platter with the all the breakfast food items will be served up and take the place of the rooster.
Some good old basics here, coffee cups, juice glasses, the everyday dishes and flatware, Pier 1 Chargers and cloth napkins.

Breakfast for the two of us-
Simple, easy and casual!

For dinner we also enjoyed a roast beef dinner I made that day
I took an impromptu snap of my plate with my iPhone.  Forgot to
pour some gravy on it before I took the picture which always makes it
 look more yummy!

I also made a homemade cake that I got the recipe from "At Home With Jemma" you can click here for it.
It is a recipe from her Grandmother called Vanilla Cake with Cocoa Frosting and I have to tell you it is delicious!  I don't make many from scratch recipes but this was easy and delicious and I will be making it again!
I use a extra deep 9" pan and make the whole cake at once.  I have to extend the baking time to do it. I lightly cover it with foil once it shows sign of light browning and bake it for about 20 more minutes than normal.
It has a springy texture yet it had weight to it and a delightful flavor!

Dining with Louigi!

Louigi welcomes you
to this evening's dining pleasure!

On the menu is a Tossed salad,
French dinner rolls, and my Rigatoni Lasagna
dish.
The old favorite Mikasa Italian Countryside dishes are our everyday dishes.
Several years ago our son was selling
Cutco cutlery and we bought a set of these everyday knives. They are like a steak and butter knife in one!
They end up on the table more often than the normal knives do!
I love the colors in this tablecloth so I'm still using it.  Its a little bit of Christmas but that's okay for now!
During our visit in Pennsylvania I picked up some of these hotplates at the Wendell August store.  They form and stamp their
metal products right there! I'm building a collection as time goes by!
As I said I made my Rigatoni Lasagna dish which I blogged about in a previous post (here)
We really like it and it's less fussy to make than with the Lasagna noodles.
The salad consisted of mixed greens, thinly sliced onions, slivered almonds and dried cranberries.  We love Marzetti's Sweet Italian Dressing on it.
No good meal should be without bread and Louigi is standing by to serve!  Isn't he the cutest! I got him at Kirkland's.  I'm partial to
that store!  Too bad I don't have any of them local to me!
I didn't plan to show this but my husband (who gave me a new camera) wanted me to take some pictures!
LOL
He's getting into it too!
A very simple dining event, but more
to the norm!
Thanks for stopping by!

Halloween
Bewitching Gathering
Winnie Green flew in to check out
this dinner engagement
She brought along some of her favorite things and seated herself on the champagne bucket!  She's surrounded with purple roses, purple sunflowers, skeletons and spiders!
A black crow keeps watch over her as she
casts her spell on this dinner table...
She's brought some friends along to check out the food
 Skull bone candy is served
Salt and pepper shakers must be included too!
Tonight's dinner is served on black dinner plates from the dollar store, Mikasa's Italian Countryside salad plates and the appetizer plates are by TAG called Halloween Black Plaid
The purple placemats came from T.J. Maxx and the silver flatware are a set that used to be my Mother's called Reflection by Rogers Bros.
I like their simple cute design!
Skull and Cross Bones Wine Glasses
from T.J. Maxx
Evening has fallen and the trees look ominous
in the dark sky!
Perfect for our bewitching gathering!
Lots of hands help guide your eyes
 Some are rather creepy
She likes the darkness even more!
The chairs have been mummified and blood stains have appeared!
Time to enjoy some food and spirits!
Witches Brew is in order!
A black light adds some special effects!
Having fun with Halloween (adult style!)

Thanks for stopping in- I hope you enjoyed the visit!

Rosy endings....

I had some roses still blooming so I decided I had to cut some and enjoy this last bit of summers offerings.

Since they are pink it was a little tricky working them into a fall arrangement.

I still have hydrangeas so I cut a few of them and some stems with leaves for bulk and color.
I cut some leaves of the cordyline spike plants that I have in some containers outside hoping to add a little drama to the arrangement.

I tried to help create more fall tones by using my sunflower vase and my amber stemware.
I did not visualize these little bowls as ever going with my April Cornell placemats. I found the placemats on mark down last spring and the bowls late last winter.  I also was pleased because it helped carry the floral theme from the arrangement.
The table cloth is a ivory colored burlap piece I picked up at Pottery Barn.  I liked the texture for this setting and the napkins I recently acquired had a nice woven texture to them too!
I decided to keep the napkin fold simple and it repeats the straight lines of the bowl and the placemat.  The Mikasa Italian Countryside dishes came in handy again and the new ivory flatware did too!
Since it's a table for two and informal I kept it simple.
My daughter gave me this little Waterford votive
and it makes a nice accent.  I strung the
plastic beads around to add a little color and give it a touch of glam!
I made a quick little cake
(some people call them a dump cakes)
It has cherries on the bottom, cake mix, chopped pecans
 and butter.
I know my husband will be going back for seconds!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed the visit.
for her weekly tabletop party!
