Harvest Dining (T)

At this time of year corn, apples, pumpkins, peaches and more are all harvested and the spell of autumn has begun to wrap around us.  Jackets and cozy throws come out as the days and nights are cooling.  Comfort food and warm drinks become the norm.

I wanted something organic for the centerpiece and I had some extra Indian Corn so that was my beginning point.  I hunted around the house looking for something I could stand them up in and finally landed on this metal candle holder.  There is a glass insert that I removed to create more space.  I nestled a flameless tea light candle in the bottom to create a warm glow resembling a small campfire.

I added some of my Purple Fountain grass which helped soften the look.

I just kept layering!  I placed the napkins in the mugs to add color and dance around the centerpiece!

The pumpkin plates came from T.J. Maxx (Olfaire of Portugal) 2 or 3 years ago.  The harvest wheat plates came from Pottery Barn a couple of years ago.  The deep orange chargers came from Hobby Lobby- last year I believe.

The napkins I've used before are from Pier 1 (this year) and the mugs are from Park Designs.  My idea for this dining experience is to have hot chocolate or mulled cider.  The stemware can be for wine or water.  A salad will be served on the pumpkin plates and a some baked chicken, thinly sliced potatoes seasoned and baked (with a little olive oil), and a warm dinner roll.
(Notice the turkey feather in the centerpiece?  I found that under some leaves the other day!)

It's very overcast today since we've been getting rain.  Using the automatic setting on the camera resulted in very dark pictures.

I used the manual setting to brighten up the images but it slows down the shutter speed so much you need a tripod to hold it steady.  In the end it all worked out!
I hope you enjoyed my Harvest Dining tablescape!

  1. Hey there! Immediately when I saw your centerpiece I thought fire!!! Wow...what a cool concept for a Fall tablescape! The turkey feather is a slick addition, too! This is a beautifully set table...one of my favorites from your fall collection! I really like the mix of colors and patterns that all speak to the season. It’s really great! I don’t know how to adjust my camera to make pictures turn out right when it’s gloomy out. I have to just fix it in editing. I really should take a class.

    1. Thank you Alycia- I'm so glad you liked it! Dan helped me learn how to use my camera more effectively. Stems from many years of using our 35 mm camera before all these automatic cameras came out.

  2. Cool centerpiece that does look like a fire. As always I love the plaid tablecloth that is perfect for autumn. The green really shines on this table. Mixing those patterns, and colors looks lovely.

  3. Liz, this setting is so cozy and inviting! Interesting how a fire (or illusion of fire) does that. How neet that you found that feather! Your pumpkin plates are wonderful, and your entire stack, including place mat and charger, is lovely. Your corn container is perfect - genius, actually. I love How your napkins mimick the shape of the flame. It’s all perfectly coordinated. Happy harvest time!

    1. Thank you Kim! I'm glad you liked the centerpiece. The candle idea was a throw back to my first tablescape on my blog where I used a candle down in a pink vase to create a little glow.

    1. Thank you Cookie- I'm glad I spotted the feather. We have a bunch of turkeys that visit throughout the seasons and every so often I find one.

  7. Your table is fantastic! I love absolutely everything about it. The centerpiece is enormously creative. I also love your linens, being a fan of plaids in harvest colors. I don't know how I missed those dinner plates at Pottery Barn, but I'm sorry that I did. The pumpkin plates on top of them are just darling. Wonderful job here, Liz.

  9. Liz, Your tablecloth looks so pretty and rich next to your wooden chairs that have such a pretty color.
I think I have napkins that are a similar pattern. I have had them a long time and wish I had bought a tablecloth to match when I bought them. Your plate stack is so attractive. Your centerpiece is extremely creative and not a cookie cutter centerpiece. How clever! Love the tea light and soft grasses added. The container was ingenious.
Great job with photos. I am still not good on manual.

  10. Indian corn as the centerpiece is genius! The varied purples of the husks are amazing. They're so unexpected and punctuate the other colors so well. The wheat plates are a perfect complement to the corn.
