Fairy Gardens

I've made some changes to my fairy garden and created
a new container fairy garden.

I made a decision to simplify my fairy garden
out by the big tree this year.
 A birds eye view
I took away a giant rock that used to be centered in the fairy garden and the tiny fairies.   I brought in some large stones, a few more plants and my big fairy that was by the walkway.

My miniature hostas keep coming back nicely.
I found a couple of fairy garden accents that
I haven't used in a couple of years that I added
back in here.
This little guy is riding on a snail that says
"Life itself is the most wonderful fairytale"

I found a stone in my pile that had holes in it so I stuck
the bird house right through one!

This is a part of a stump from those ash trees that
had to be cut down.  I nestled it in with the dirt and it
became a resting place for the gazebo and the fairy.
She's taking a break from moving the big white stones.

Her cart is leaning up against the stump but already
some stones have tumbled out!  She's going to have to work
a lot harder than she thinks!

I found this miniature Solomon's Seal this year that I think
will work out really well for my fairy garden.

The Solomon's Seal should spread out and help fill in
the ground areas.

Of course the little bridge had to stay and a toad
has joined the scene!
He's trying to figure out where the water went!
I haven't installed it yet!

I did break down and bought one packet of 4 impatiens
to put out here.  It's the only place I'm putting them.
They were grown locally and pre-treated so hopefully no
mildew will attack them.

I love these miniature hostas.  They really work well
for the fairy gardens.

The fairy on the right says
"A rustle in the wind reminds us a fairy is near"
Notice the larger stones

The stones will keep her from falling over and help create
a focal point for the larger fairy.
Perhaps she will keep those turkeys, chipmunks and squirrels out of here!

She's always looking East!

My new fairy garden arrangement should work out
a lot better for me and it will be fun to see how it
looks as the summer clicks along!

Now on to my 2nd Fairy Garden in the Planter

I managed to get my small furniture, arbor, trellis,
house and some of the fairies in here.

A menagerie of little things tucked in here and there...

The white stones are actually tile that come on a mesh
backing for installing on a wall.  I cut them into sections
and added small stone to fill in the gaps.

There is a fuschia on the right side that will not
only attract bees, but hummingbirds too!

I've got a few perennials in here like the sedum  and the others are annuals.

I've moved it closer to the railing so it will get more sun.
The soft purple colored Bacopa on the left seems to be a favorite for the bees.  I was sitting so close when a bumble bee came by that I could feel the air movement from it's wings!  It actually landed on my hand and crawled all over it.  I guess I had pollen on me from planting them.  I finally blew it off because it was staying on my hand for so long!

Well, I know it was a long post, but I hope you enjoyed
seeing my new fairy gardens!

  2. Oh my gosh, how sweet!!! I have a fairly deep plant saucer that I have set aside to do a fairy garden with the kids this year, but just haven't gotten to it yet. Besides the plants and rocks, I need to find some cute things to put in it. Should be a fun project once school lets out for the summer. I may be stealing some of your ideas. :o)

  7. Hi Liz,

You have inspired me to finally make a Fairy Garden. I have been collecting some of the same little miniatures that you have.

I love the slices of your old Ash tree, the bark is so detailed. All your little plants and fairies are looking so happy in each vignette.
