Summer Gardening 2023, Backyard

I'll start out with the only three roses I have. I'm real pleased with how they've been blooming.

This one is Cherry Parfait, a definite favorite of mine!

Sarah Bernhardt peony was absolutely lovely! Sure wish they'd last longer!

One of the mixed planters with dahlias, geraniums and supertunias.

This is a favorite, love all the colors. The yellow ones were called Cape Daisies, and have grown quite a bit since I took this picture. I think they are also known as Cape Marguerite Dasies. I hope to find more next year to plant a bunch!

One of two planters in front of the garage. Salvia and coleus did well I've had to pinch back the coleus because if is overrunning the salvia. The hummers and butterflies love the salvia!

I planted these Angelique begonias in May and it took until the end of July to bloom!

Some of the blooms are 3" & 4" across!

Campanula Rapido Blue Bellflowers, I love them, such a pretty color.

A good reliable Spirea, Little Princess

I replaced some hydrangeas with these because I had trouble with frosts ruining my hydrangeas. These are much more tolerant of our cold weather up here.

A large planter filled with a mix of peachy pinks, coral, lime green and burgundy.

This planter has been beautiful. Prettier in person!

My new Gorilla Cart in green I got early this summer. Always filling it up!

Bright Lights Double Moonglow, Osteospermum

Burgundy Glow Ajuga has spread nicely carpeting this area of the retaining wall.

This a Red Wine Lofos vine. I mixed it with a couple of other annuals, but the prettiness of the vine is the eye grabber!

Some pink Bellflower. This is my "pink" garden so I stick pretty much to pink!

A few weeks ago.... I do have one blue delphium for contrast!

This blue plant is from Proven Winners called Blue My Mind, dwarf morning glory. Looks especially pretty with the backdrop of my Annabelle hygrangeas!

Garden In The White

Right now plants in white seem to be showcasing themselves!

This Campanula White Clips (Bellflower) I split it in half and put the other half to the left of the rock. Next year I'll have double the pleasure!

I lost the tag for this one but I think it's some kind of Cranesbill/Perennial Geranium

This is Astilbe Younique White. It'll get a little whiter as it ages. I like that it's shorter and dense.

Hawaiian Punch Elephant Ears plant with a bedding of plants.

I planted little white begonias which have been surrounded quite heavily by the Creeping Jenny Goldilocks. They are a lighter green than the usual Creeping Jenny.

My Annabelle hydrangea. This year the blooms are smaller, maybe because I transplanted it over a few feet from where it was last fall?

I did try the method of not cutting this back in the fall. I waited until early spring and gave it a trim down to where new buds were forming. I read that by doing this the plant will be more supported by stronger branches and hold themselves up better. It seems like these are much more upright than in the past but I don't know if the smaler blooms are due to that transplant I did or because of this method of pruning.

This is it from another year. Kind of fluffier and the flowers are larger.

So I'm in the white now!

Outside Gardens and Planters

An early morning glimpse at my "Pink Garden" . Not much pink is in bloom except the foxgloves and some cosmos. The shrub is a Nikko Deutzia and will fill out more in the next several days.

Just above that I have two planters with "Baby Moses" grass, and two supertunias called Daybreak Charm and Mini Vista Indigo. They are just starting to fill out.

My island out front which we expanded last year in this "post" has come up very nicely. Everything is bigger and even better it all came up!

Almost nothing is in bloom here but it should pop soon!

I took a panoramic photo which makes it look more rounded and short!

On the end are a bunch of Stella De'Oro daylilies that are just starting to shoot up their buds.

Only thing blooming is my Max Frei Cranesbill.

Last year I did a post about creating this shade garden. I'm pleased that everything came back and is looking great!

Out back as we walk up the sidewalk is a planter loaded with Creeping Jenny, White Begonias and a Royal Hawaiian Blue Hawaii elephant's ear. Can't wait for the elephant's ear to grow much larger!

Remember earlier this spring I did a "post" about how we moved three Limelight Hydrangeas over to this area and I also split up some hostas and created a step down from the Limelights, then another step down to the "Wild Rose" Coral Bells (Heuchera) Then I planted some white alyssum and pink begonias. We'll see how it all looks in a month from now!

The shrubs seemed to have taken the transplant well. We'll see if they're going to bloom!

This is the area that we took the Limelights from and planted these new "Tiny Tuff Stuff" Hydrangeas.

The're shooting off new growth which is a good sign. I ordered these online and they came up from North Carolina. It was a particularly cold spring so I kept them in the garage at night and brought them out for some sun. Eventually we planted them and a few weeks later they started to bloom!

The lace cap flowers are pretty! They've just started blooming so I'm looking forward to how they fill out.

Several years ago I took out my Engdless Summer Hydrangeas and replaced them with these "Pink Sparkler" Spiraea. They are filling out nicely and have begun to bloom.

This is how they looked a few years back.

Out front of the garage I have a pair of planters. I planted a Papyrus called Prince Tut in the center as well as Sweet Caroline Sweetheart Lime Sweet Potato Vine and Supertunia Vista Fuchsia. It's just now started to fill in and I'm looking forward to seeing how the Supertunia's do!
