Santa Lantern Tabletop Vignette

A few years ago I picked up this over sized lantern
that I wanted to use for Christmas decorating
It's 35" tall and about 12" square.
I got the idea to light it from the top
and my handy husband came up
with how to do it!
This is it turned upside down with his custom made light fixture.
It's one of those lights like you use for a village piece.
He created this mounting fixture out of little brass rods and
he used an epoxy to glue in place.

Anyway....

fast forward to now

I decorated it with a tree, a santa,
an over sized snowflake to catch the light and two cardinals.
It's pretty much stayed the same for these 3 Christmas's

This year I added my owl "Ozzie" that I used for my fall decorating

This year I set it up on my little
round table in the corner which
is between my kitchen and dining
rooms.

The reindeer, trees, and a birch candle
are from Grandinroad- which I purchased during the Black Friday sales.

The birch candle is battery operated. I wanted to make this feel like a woodland
setting to go with the Christmas tree next to the table which is loaded
with birds and bird houses.

The table topper I used was purchased last season on mark down from Dillard's.
It goes with the dishes I purchased
from them.
I never visualized using it this way, but it just all sort of fell together.

I captured some shots of it with the
sun shining.
I have a Santa Woodland picture coming that I will hang in place of the current piece on the wall. It just happens to be the same general size and another bargain purchase!
(The funky brown thing on the left wall is a doorbell)
I'll zoom in on the tree another
time!

 Evening glow!

  2. Liz, I LOVE our vignette..especially the lantern with the woodland scene inside. Your husband is so smart to "electrify" the lantern and showcases the Santa scene. Yay, Hubby! Love all your other elements, too. especially the table topper. Great job Liz and Hubby! Oh, I thought the "funky brown thing" was actually a decorative piece. It's the prettiest doorbell I've seen.

  4. Its definitely looking like Christmas at your house. I have finally gotten around to decorating a few things but I haven't gotten my tree up yet. I peeked inside the ornament box and got all excited about the bird ornaments I bought last year so maybe I'll get that up this weekend. I love what you did with your lantern and the snow is a really nice touch!!

  7. Lizarooni!!!!!!!!! Would you PLEASE ask Dan to rub a little of his handy-man essence on a little cloth and send it to me to wipe all over Ramon's hands? I need stuff like this done all the time, and he doesn't have a clue!!! I have a lantern that is nearly identical to yours. I wanted an electric lamp put in it. Electrician was going to charge me $65 to do it. $65!!!!!! I bought the lantern wholesale, so that would have been TWICE the cost of the doggone lantern!!! No way, Jose! Alright...now that I'm done ranting and coveting your husband's handyman skills, let's get on with it: Beautiful!!! I love what you have done inside the lantern AND the surrounding area, especially the snow!!! Those anorexic reindeer are gorgeous! They are absolutely perfect for the vignette, especially standing alongside that pencil tree!!! The table topper is great, too, and just the perfect accessory for the snowy woodland look. Is that birch candle an LED? I want some birch candles, but I want them in LEDs which I've been unable to find at a reasonable price. I'm starting to think I'm going to have to make my own! OK...not that I'm being nosy (yes, I am!), but if this is between your kitchen and dining room, is that the front or back door? If it's the back, it's mighty fancy, young lady!!! No, wait...that can't be the back door. The doorbell box is right there. What I'm trying to say in a very apparently-not-hooked-on-phonics way is that I like that entry! :-) Beautifully done, my friend...and I'm totally jealous! :-)
