Easter Decorating at my Home

It all started when I spotted some pussy willows at the grocery store and a wheel barrow at Cracker Barrel!

When I was a child my mother always set up some kind of Easter Egg tree.  Sometimes it was a few branches collected from the yard and painted white and sometimes it was Pussy Willow branches.  I'm sure the Pussy Willows were chosen only if Easter was in April because in Michigan we are usually still having winter in March!

I have a small collection of hand painted Easter eggs (I did not paint) I've had these since the early 90's when I ordered them from a catalog.

Some are floral and some have cute chicks, ducks and rabbits on them.

I mentioned getting these at the grocery store. I was thrilled when I saw them because they were in such great condition and they were perfect for preserving.  All you do is "not" put them in water and they dry up on their own.

Around the base of the crystal vase I put a grape vine wreath that I dressed up with some paper grass, flowers and eggs.  The little bunny egg holders are for one large egg to set in but I chose to use some faux eggs for fun.  I think I'll pick up some foil wrapped chocolate eggs for them which will be even cuter!

These Fitz and Floyd bunnies come from a group called "Poppies" which I've had a long time. I dressed them with the green ribbon for a little flare a few years ago and I just kept them on.

This basket was a T.J. Maxx find. I added a few of my own eggs but it did come with some.
I set it on this clay pot which I bought for a project I need to get working on.  The grape vine wreath was added to tie into the basket's organic look.

The vase was filled with white silica sand and helped stabilize the Pussy Willow branches and add some weight.

So that's my Pussy Willow Easter Egg Tree
now on to my mantel

About a month ago I saw this wheel barrow at Cracker Barrel.  I had just picked up the two standing rabbits at the Hallmark store and the minute I saw the wheel barrow I knew they had to go together.

This little chubby rabbit  (Pier 1) has been having way too much fun eating from the garden.
The white grass is from Williams Sonoma. I stuffed some tulips in with a few crackled finished eggs and a bunch of carrots (Hobby Lobby)

These bunnies are made of sisal.

They both have their own baskets with some carrots and I added a few eggs.

They've been robbing the farmers garden!

I still love the spring colors of Easter decorations. I was going to paint the wheel barrow white, but I decided the brown was okay and may work out just fine.  I'm glad I left it alone.  I think it keeps the look pulled together.

Hop hop hopping along....

Delightfully Sunny

A delightfully sunny day and flowers sure can make a day
 seem so much happier.

I hesitate to share these photos because the windows are in desperate need of cleaning.  It was only 19 degrees out so cleaning
the outside of the window wasn't an option.

I did a little reading on the "Christmas Cactus" and found out that there are other names like Thanksgiving Cactus,  Crab Cactus and Holiday Cactus.
Actually now that I've done this reading I guess this is actually a "Thanksgiving Cactus".  The asymmetrical growth pattern and the way it lays almost horizontal are different from true "Christmas Cactus" which are symmetrical and hang downward.  (who knew?)

The genus is Schlumbergera
and this would be from the "buckleyi" group

Whatever it's name I am most pleased it is blooming for me!  A nice colorful addition to this late winter month.

I dressed it out with a flowery ribbon as I'm doing a
little Easter decorating.

Might as well have something enjoyable to look at since the outdoor scenery still leaves a little bit to be desired!

As always thank-you for visiting!

Nod to Romance

Recently in my post "Dazzling and Details" I showed a few new pieces for my office.  This is what I ended up doing with them.  For starters.... I moved  the tall stand that had the lamp on  and it swapped places with the elephant table that I had just brought in.
Elephant table is now adorned with my lamp, a glamed up tissue box cover and a glass candle holder accented with the fleur de'lis.  I placed a glass riser piece under the lamp to add some more glam.

When I began putting the office together I wanted it to reflect things I like.  Sticking to my traditional roots but allowing myself a little play room to indulge in a few deviations is my game plan.
"You can see here"  my initial office beginnings.
I have a very traditional desk and I wanted to blend
in a little modern glam to the room so the big floral picture was added.  It's shimmery paint and the fun polka dot shimmery sheers on my windows helped give it that vibe that I wanted.

I've been looking at some Eiffel Tower metal art pieces but I couldn't settle on one I liked.  I fell across this picture and was drawn to it immediately.  I liked the coloring in the frame which picked up beautifully with window dressings and brought in a little more of the traveled look that I've been playing with.
The Eiffel Tower is highlighted with evening lights and what could be more romantic!

Next to the Cloche with the monkey is a finial piece that I
relocated from the living room.
This tassel was laying on the desk and I had been looking for a
new home for it.

The top of the dresser/bureau has changed
once again...I guess this is always going to be
a subject of my messin' around!  I edited out the
blue pieces and added an old fashioned bicycle
and rearranged everything.

The tall stand that was behind the desk now
resides just below a wall shelf and I put the new
Paris book on it with the new frame I showed you last week.
The roses were preserved a year ago and I used this gold tone glass vase to complete the vignette.  They still have a sweet smell.
Hubby gave them to me last year for our 34th
which I  "blogged about".
Number 35 is right around the corner!

I  placed this lovely picture called
"A Favour" in the frame
which depicts a woman tossing a rose to
her beau below.  I thought it was a sweet
tie in with preserved roses.

I created a panoramic shot with my iPhone.  It gives you a little reference to my room.  It came out a bit dark but I guess that adds to my romantic nod!

So for now...that's all!!

Thumbs Up Kelsey

Kelsey

On January 29th, this beautiful young lady's life
was nearly ended.
On that fateful morning a fog had flooded the area and as she progressed her way into work she was clobbered by a pick-up truck that was traveling at such a speed that it tossed her vehicle like a toy causing it to roll several times and finally landing  next to a poll.
Her broken and battered body was taken to the hospital where the doctors did not think she would live 15 minutes.

As anyone knows the first hours and days are so important.  Each hour she lived and each day that went by gave hope that she was going to pull through.  She was kept in a medically induced coma for a long time and then gradually allowed to start coming out.

Her major injuries included a broken neck, 4 fractures in her pelvic, internal bleeding, broken ribs, and she lost her spleen.  Traumatic brain injury resulting in major swelling occured, and the long term results are yet to be determined.  There were a host of other problems, but somehow she's been strong enough to keep on pulling through.  Many weeks in intensive care and various surgeries ensued.

Approx. 6 weeks have passed and she's been moved to a rehabilitation center.  She has been able to voluntarily open her eyes, look for someone and she gave a thumbs up a few days into physical therapy.  She can't vocalize and these moments are brief, but she surely seems to be a living miracle!

A loving sister's hand holding on

Kelsey is a friend of my daughter's and  I sure hope they will share some laughs together again soon.  As a parent I can't imagine the anguish her parents have been going through.  I wasn't as confident through this and tried to prepare my daughter for the worst.  The doctors have been amazed at her recovery and have been baffled by it.  They've told the family "whatever you're doing keep it up" - because they've never seen anyone pull through like this with the level of injuries she had.

Her family and fiance Tyler's unwavering faith in God have never given up and have always believed that she was going to pull through this.

Hundreds of  people are praying for her and keeping her close in their hearts, but she can always use more!

Say a little prayer for Kelsey, her family and for all the wonderful doctors, nurses, and therapists that have helped her get this far along.  She has a long journey yet to travel.

Thumbs up Kelsey!
