I am so grateful to see the snow all gone and signs of spring popping up.
Tulips and daffodils are on their way up too and it's going to be raining on and off this week so I expect them to grow quickly!
The last two weekends have been fabulous and I got some raking done on the garden beds.
It all looks so naked! Before long this will be flooded with hostas, coral bells, and astilbe.
We dug out the pee-gee hydrangea tree that was here and moved it out front last fall. Hoping it comes back with vigor and blooms better than ever. It definitely wasn't happy in the spot I first chose for it.
Dan decided to burn the old burlap that some of the shrubs were covered in. He's blown off all the debris since I took the picture. It always amazes me how much crud appears after the winter since we left it all cleaned up and tidy last fall. This fire pit is a propane gas cylinder cut down into rings and then the design cut-outs are created. It's nearly 4 foot across! We always have some branches and sticks to burn that fall from the trees.
I've relocated the little cottage for my fairy garden. I can walk up to it here and play around with it more easily. I've got a bad knee and find getting down at ground level to be much more difficult these days. These are thoughts I've dreamt about doing through the winter.
We've brought out the lawn furniture and I've set up my black planters on the deck this year. They were new last year and I had them out on the patio but I decided to try them here this time. The squirrels keep eating away at our deck- they've literally taken chunks of it and have ruined the stairs. We don't know what they're attracted to but it's really becoming annoying! The only thought we have is that during the winter we use a salt mix to melt the ice and make it safer to get in and out of our home. Perhaps it's the salt their going for?

Well- here we are one more winter has gone by and we're back outside working on our yard.
I raked and raked to get the old grasses and oak leaves out of the bed. I was so mad to see how the oak leaves managed to cover my entire garden bed. I'm sure they provided some insulation so perhaps that's a positive way to look at it.
My Queen Elizabeth Rose looks terrible. I think those deep freeze temps we had this winter took it's toll.
I cut it down real short in hopes that something will come alive. This is why I don't invest much in roses. I may be premature- I guess I'll know in the next two weeks. There is some white stuff on it too that looks like mildew- probably not good either?
As evening was setting I noticed a turkey fly up into the tree. They sleep up there which I find interesting. Sorry about the poor quality picture.
She's settled down on the branch for the night.
I took this on the 22nd. We had a snowfall during the night. It was the last laugh from nature I guess.
Thankfully it warmed up and we had some nice rains that got rid of all of this!
I took this on the 27th! So thankful for the rapid change!
We brought out the lawn furniture from the storage shed and I put out some pottery pieces to stare at and and dream about what I'll be planting.
I feel like the shackles of winter have finally been lifted. Seeing some green..any green caused great joy in the inner spirit of this lady!
First things first...lots of debris to be removed including the grasses and oak leaves that came down through the winter.
My hubby decided to try his shop-vac to vacuum out the tangled leaves and it worked quite well! It's an usual approach but he was quite happy with how well it worked!
I was raking everything off the beds to get ahead of the plants that are starting to sprout up. Those oak leaves are tough...and they like to wait until winter before they drop so we always have them to clean up!
Eventually he got the back pack leaf blower out and cleaned up all the bird seed leaves and dirt that seemed to have migrated all over the walkway and patio.
We've got rain coming Monday/Tuesday
so we are rushing to get a few details
out of the way.
The crocus have been popping up.
This is out front. The tulips and daffodils
are coming out fast.
These crocus were a part of an old garden that I removed years ago. They just keep popping back up in random areas.
This year they seemed quite strong.
We'll be cleaning out the leaves and dead plant material soon. I'm just afraid to step in the wrong area!
My assignment today is to trim back the vine on this arbor . It doesn't look like much but with the warmer temps it will be greening up real fast.
