Ruby "40 Years" (T)

We celebrated our 40th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday.  Our daughter arranged to have this bouquet of 40 roses delivered that day also!

I decided to play up the "ruby" red coloring which is the traditional gift for the 40th Wedding Anniversary.  The flatware is our wedding set from 1978.  Perfect time to use it again!

The ruby red glasses have cherries on them which I bought for the symbolism of our area being the largest tart cherry producer in the country.  The fleur de-lis cups mixed well with dishes.

I chose the charger and dinner plate for their understated earthy colors that go well with the tablecloth.

I chose the antiqued metal napkin rings to pair up with the flatware.  The napkins came from my mother's table linens and I'm sure they are at least 50 years old now.

A table set with love and sentiment!

We had some of the most grueling weather all weekend which put a damper on our day but receiving the lovely roses perked it up a lot so of course I had to set a table with them!

Hard to believe we've been married this long- so much has happened yet time sure has flown by!

Last Thursday Dan popped in with the largest bundle of flowers I've ever gotten from him!  I love the cheerful colors and I couldn't get another stem in there!  What a great pick-me-up!

Memorial Day Weekend Buffet Dining

I thought I'd set the kitchen table up like a buffet for the Memorial Day weekend.

There will be apple pie, baked beans, grilled chicken, burgers and pasta salad this weekend.   The red and white cherry pitcher can serve our favorite raspberry iced tea.

These Mosser ruby red goblets are a favorite and add a nice touch of red!  I got these because of the cherry design on them and I love that they are made in the U.S.
Our area produces 75% of the tart cherry crop in the U.S. so we're big on cherry things!

The dishes are from another classic American manufacturer Home Laughlin.  They specialize in restaurant dinnerware these days.  Look at the bottom of the dishes at restaurants you attend and you may be surprised to see their name underneath!

Memorial Day weekend seems to be the kick-off to summer although this year it's a bit early!   I'll put out my flags and I know we'll be busy outside doing little projects.  I hope we can dine outside on the deck and enjoy some warm weather.

Remember those who have died while serving our country.
 God Bless America!

Wishing you a great weekend!

You Can't Get It Done If You Don't Do It!

While having my morning coffee I was in a funk.   I was noticing the morning sky was showing signs of clearing so to get myself moving I reminded myself of my new mantra
"YOU CAN'T GET IT DONE IF YOU DON'T DO IT"!
I made this phrase up for myself to help keep me driven to doing things.  It is helpful when I feel humdrum and lazy which is more often than I care to admit!
I love catching the sun when I take pictures of my tablescapes but in order to catch it I have to be ready to shoot pictures at around 9:00 a.m.- needless to say I had to hustle to get this done!

I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do but after I read a blog post this morning at Rattlebridge Farm called "50 Shades of Red" the bell went off in my head!

When I saw this quote that was included in the post I mentioned "red is the ultimate cure for sadness" I got my color inspiration to pull a tablescape together.
What's to be sad about?  Well you just can't help but be a bit sad when the days are gray more often than not and all too short!  Nothing like a punch of red to cheer things up!

I chose my new HL French wire basket.  The bronze finished rooster took center stage with a white linen napkin to dress it out and I included the rex begonia branches around the sides to finish it off.

I love these plates and they had to be a part of this scape.
I chose to repeat the black coloring with the wood charger and the flatware.

The rooster/chicken? ramekins became my napkin holders.  The rick rack trim and enlarged checkered design work well with these dishes.  I've used a similar combo before as seen "here"

The view outside is white on white with a touch of gray and green.  Too monotone for me!

I got Dan to move my plate rack and center it on the wall (left-right) which turned into three days of work because of all the nail holes that needed patching then re-painting.  I have left the wall space blank because I'm still deciding on what I'd like to do with it.

Just remember- YOU CAN'T GET IT DONE IF YOU DON'T DO IT!!
Now it's time for me to get my slow cooker going for this evening's meal!
