June's Blooms

Hello everybody!  I  haven't posted in a while!  

 

Just so you know these pictures are all in the wrong order, starting with last picture first!  I am having lots of problems with blogger and loading my pictures.  After 3 times I decided this is going to be it!  So you can drop down to the bottom if you'd like and read up!

Here I have a Princes Spirea that is blooming and I thought it looked pretty with the sun cast on it.

 

A little bit of my fairy garden.

 

I don't know the name of this lily but I like how it looks with the cottage house.

These cement cottage fairy houses are my favorites!  This is the first year I put them on this side of the stairs but I like them here especially with the rusticness of the granite bird bath.

 

I planted these coleus called Redhead to create a nice contrast with Phlox Intensia Blueberry (which will spread out) and then a row of Violas.

These coleus contrast nicely against the white Annabelle Hydrangea that is just forming it flowers.

 

Just behind the Annabelle's is this Little Princess Spirea which always performs well.
 

My little Japanese Garden .  My Red Dragon Japanese Maple is really taking it's time to grow!

I added the stepping stones up to the pagoda last year.  The jury is still out as to whether I like them.  I decided to go with a blueish tone and I'm questioning my decision!

Just around the corner I have some Sweet Romance lavender.  It seems to be doing well next to the driveway but is being overwhelmed by a blue spruce!

Just a quick shot of my little garden girl. Not a whole lot in bloom here just yet!

I even have a bit of Milkweed growing though I have a hard time keeping my husband from weeding it out!  I keep reminding him of the benefits but he grew up on a farm and just sees it as a weed! 

This is Autumn Charm Stonecrop sedum that I really like.  Love that it's bi-colored and it shoots out a realy pretty pink flower.

This is one of my favorites too, it's called Peach Flambe Coral Bells (Heuchera)  

On the end of the island are some Stella D'oro daylilies that are just starting to bloom.  They always put on a good show.

I believe these are a Tiny Bee Asiatic Lily which I love their pretty yellow coloring!

Oh gosh this Magic Show "Wizard of AHHS" Veronica/speedwell is lovely this year!

Still lots more to bloom yet!

This is Orange Marmelade hosta which I've had for quite a few years.  I might split it this year so I can have a bigger display of it!

Down below the Limelight Hydrangea are these Lemon Princess Spirea.  Spireas do real well up north here.

Out Back Gardens Of Late Summer

 First up are my limelight hydrangeas- they're mostly white but will go green and then pink.

 Let's take a walk down the pathway...

 My hostas are doing well, starting to show signs that it's the end of the season though.

This is another view of the same group of hostas.

 Out by the fountain the planters are doing well.

 My hosta hill.  Some are still in bloom.  I choose to leave the blooms in place since the hummingbirds and bees love them!  I cut the flowers away as they decline.

 I planted two swans with the same impatiens and they're just about grown over.  I actually cut away some flowers so you could see their heads. 

 Another view of my other hosta hill planted last year which is doing very well.  I moved my lighthouse out to the back here.

 My Empress Wu hosta is developing into the giant that it's supposed to be.   Covers up my fairy statue now! Those are Brother Stefan hostas up front.  Love their contrasting leaf color.

 In the corner of my deck are a trio of planters.  The one down below is overgrown with white impatiens and there are also some ivy creeping out of the bottom and some caladiums that you can't even see in the middle. 

 

 This one I planned to be a fall display consisting of several varieties of coleus.

 This one is a floppy mess of snapdragons, salvia and asparagus ferns.  The hummingbirds love it though!

 This Mexican Heather plant took over!  The other side is an asparagus fern.

 And lastly my fairy garden area.

I have to pick up the fairies daily as the chipmunks like to roam through!  The white alyssum make for a nice cottage setting.  The Annabelle hydrangeas have gone from white to green and are starting to get papery.  They'll make for nice dried flowers before long.

Forgotten Garden Second Edition

 As I explained before with my Island Garden I transplanted a bunch of perennials from this bed.  I decided that since it's become so shaded that I'd plant it with hostas.  I started out with two but then I decided to expand.  So begins the Second Edition of my Forgotten Garden!

 I was pretty satisfied with this but those little golden/green ones up front looked skimpy so I went on a hunt for more.  I found the first two at Home Depot, then I tried a local garden center and found two and then I went to Cadillac which is a 45 minute run and found two more!

The two from the garden center were larger so there's a little inconsistency with their sizes but next year it should all look better.  I ordered several of these from New Hampshire Hostas.  Two are a bluish tone to compliment the blue spruce that is nearby.  I put in two other hostas in that frontal row that are different but similar in size.  Oh and I put in a couple of ferns.

 These Tassel Ferns are nestled up near the lilacs in a nice more densely shaded area.

 This is the first hosta I brought home.  It's called Aureo Marginata Fortunei.

And now with a fresh layer of mulch!

Perennials and Some Annuals!

 Hello my fellow gardeners!  I thought I'd start off with this beauty which is a Lofus vine plant.  I really love the trumpet like flowers it produces.  I'm getting more and more each day!

 Things are finally taking off.  What a long drawn out spring it was!

 This is my new Cherry Parfait rose bush that I showed a bit ago having another round of flowers!  Love it!!

 Next to it is my Sarah Bernhardt peony.  It's finally producing more than one flower.  It's the third year in.  They are heavenly scented!

 These are the spirea I planted last year and they are coming along nicely.

 This is a classic example of how perennials sometimes crawl, creep, then leap!  This is the 2nd year for these hostas and the pretty much look like they did last year.  The astilbe is filling out nicely so next year I figure I'm going to have a nice show!

 Out front I planted two new shrubs.  One is a Ninebark and the other a Barberry bush.  I decided that the burgundy maple on the end, then the burgundy Barberry bush in the middle and the burgundy Ninebark on the other end to be punctuation points.  I decided it was all to green and needed some contrast.

I think this Ninebark should do well here.  I had a Pinky 

Winky hydrangea here but it was very lackluster so I dug it out and replaced it with this Ninebark.

 This is a mock orange shrub.  This is the third year in and it's filling out and flowering more.

 This spirea is blooming and will soon be shaped/trimmed.

 I put the stone out here last year and decided it needed a 2nd one next to it.  The cluster of hostas I planted came up nicely.  There's about 5 plants there and I planted this somewhat close together so they'd look like a very large hosta.

 This was last week when the pink peonies were in full bloom!  Gosh they smell so good, too bad they are so short lived!

 This is now and the white and deep pink or red ones are blooming away.

They are bordered with the perennial geraniums.

 A quick snap of the yellow begonias which are just now starting to take off.

 This is a Captain Kirk hosta.

 And lastly in front of the garage Superbena Royal Chambray planted with a Baby King Tut grass in the center.  I'm hoping the Baby King Tut will get taller soon!
