Wood and Table Top Vignettes

Last year I created this three panel piece and used it for a display on my round table as seen "here" that I am not using any longer.  I found these beautiful red swags at JoAnn's that I added to the front area and set the big owl that I've previously used on my pencil tree.

This wood top covers the built in cabinetry that separates our living room from the rest of the house.

The big lantern has been featured many times but this year I emptied it and came up with a new look.
That's a baby picture of our grandson gifted to us by the kids at Thanksgiving.  I haven't decided where to permanently place it yet.

Let's open it up and look inside!

These are the little trees I bought at Terrain that I mentioned in my post the other day.
Dan created a light for me in the top of the lantern as featured "here"in 2010.

This Santa stood in front of the three panels last year on the round table.   I like how he fits in here with the trees.  He came from Lowe's a few years ago.

I added some of those wireless mini light strands to it for nighttime.

Just to the side in the living room I dressed out the wood card table that usually sits in the spot where the Christmas tree is.  I got the tablecloths from MacKenzie Childs last year at the end of the season. The bottom one would have gone on the round table but since I'm not using it now I decided to use both of these together.

Late in the summer when Dan and I visited Mackinaw City we picked up the picture at a little gallery store.

This is a real time picture taken on Mackinac Island during the winter.  Those are snowmobiles on the left and the horse carriage is real.  If you aren't familiar with Mackinac Island here in Michigan it is virtually void of cars.  People get around on bicycles, horses with carriages and wagons and of course on foot too.  It's only accessible by boat.

This old world style Santa was bought last year at the end of the season sale in a cute gift shop in my hometown of Rochester, MI.  I thought he looked like something you could believe you'd see in the scene depicted on Mackinac Island.

I got lantern crazy this year.  Love it at night!

Last year I used this reindeer wall decoration on the mantel.  I hooked it to the top of the easel with the picture.  Seemed fitting for the vignette!

Tis' the Season!

  1. Wonderful photos, Liz! I especially love your idea for the Santa in the lantern. When we downsize (soon!), I plan to pass along my mother-in-law's Santa collection to my children, but it would be fun to keep one special one to display as you've done. Thank you for the inspiration!

  2. As always...beautiful! I still think it's scary how you and I think so much alike every year! When I finally post my decor, you'll see what I mean!

  3. I love all your lanterns Liz! Love the red one and the one with the Santa inside. I haven't done anything with my lanterns this year. Yours is great inspiration!

  4. Beautiful vignette Liz. Love the lantern with Santa inside. The owl in front of the panels and the wreaths are perfect. Love the winter scene in the print. Merry Christmas.

  5. Liz, the last photo is so pretty with the lantern lit. You and your husband make a great team. He's always making your ideas come to life. That's a good husband! All of your pieces are beautiful and displayed with such care. I always enjoy seeing what you come up with. Have a great day! ♥

  6. Liz, I love that picture so much. You are a very good decorator . The display on the cabinet is beautiful I also love the lanterns and Santas. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  7. The Santa inside the lantern is lovely. Love the owls and the panels. What a great deal you got in that fabulous tablecloth from MC. I guess when they have their sales, is a good time to buy some items. Such a lovely vignette to enjoy both during the day and night when it is all lit up.

  8. Liz beautiful, loving the lantern and your Santos. Such a magical photo and a magical place. It must be an amazing vision in person

  9. What a wonderful space you have for decorating! I envy all that display space. I'm trying not to buy decorations, but I want some lanterns too! Love that soft light. I love your plaid and that wonderful picture of the island. So evocative, We NEVER have a scene like that at Christmas. Everything looks so cheery and wonderful! Merry Christmastime!

  10. Liz, your style is impeccable, just gorgeous! Yes, I see the MC textiles, a perfect underpinning for how you've created your vignettes. I have never been to Mackinac but have heard numerous descriptions and seen various photos from one of my daughter's friends...I'd love to see it sometime in person. Your owl, deer, lantern....it all looks so tastefully put together. I really love the lantern especially. When I saw that photo of the infant, I surmised it was a grand and I thought, well, that's a pretty cool way to depict the infant in the manger. :) It's perfect for the season!

Thank you for your comments! I don’t always get a chance to reply but I do read them!
