Impromptu at Moms

While visiting my mother for Christmas
I did an impromptu table setting.

I went through the china cabinets and
shopped around for something to
put on the table
I rummaged through her linens and found an
old pink linen tablecloth, some napkins
and a crocheted linen runner.
There was no time to iron as I was doing
this in about at 15 minute time slot.
I laid the runner on an angle (it's coming
apart in spots) and then I laid the
cloth napkins out like a placemat.
I found this crystal tree and a toothpick box
along with the pitcher and set them in the
center.
My goal was to surprise my (89 yr. old) mom and
I did!  We had orange juice, french toast,
hash browns, bacon and scrambled eggs!
I brought these linens home with me.  I'm going to see if I can get some of the yellowing out and keep them in a safe place.  I know the cloth napkins date back to the 50's.  I don't know about the crocheted runner but it's definitely old.  Perhaps it was an aunt of hers, I know she's mentioned things like that before. Her memory isn't so good these days.
Mom wanted a new tree this year and
this is what she selected. My other sisters
did their best to decorate for her.
I bought her the blue Poinsettia- I know
it's weird but she loves blue and really
likes it!

Thanks for visiting!

  2. I so adore that you honor your mom in such lovely ways. The crochet 'drape' on the cake dome is charming. There is a product called "Vintage Soak" that should safely and effectively restore your mom's linens. I buy them from an antique store in Oklahoma City called, The Antique House. Their phone number is 405-495-2221. I highly recommend it. About a quart size bag of it sells for $12.00, so it's kind of high, but it' worth every penny. Just follow the instructions. Happy New Year! Cherry Kay

  3. What a sweet breakfast with your Mom. I lost my Mom when she was only 59 years old, so I LOVE to hear about making memories with a beloved mother and daughter!

I LOVE that white tree!!!! My mom's Christmas tree always and only had blue lights....and that was back in the days when one had to buy the multi packs just to get ONE blue bulb...bless her heart I think she spent a small fortune. She didn't live long enough to see the years where it is so easy to find all one color twinkle lights.

Anyway, I love your glassware and your sweet post. Good luck on getting your yellowing out! Let us know how you did - possibly Met Monday over at BNOTP??? Happy New Year!

  8. What fun you had with your mother's "pretties"! I really love that pitcher -- such an unusual shape -- and the blue and white plates are so cheery! I love old linens, too -- good luck with the stains (and the ironing!) Susan, who blogs at My Place to Yours (no. 17 this week at TT), has some great tips on vintage linens!

  11. I'm impressed! It takes me a week to get it together and get it photographed, and you did it in minutes and made brunch, too! Very cute. I love the blue plates and the vintage linens. Well done!

And you are so lucky to still have your mom. Cherished times together.

  14. Oh, lucky you, to be able to go dishing (I mean digging) in your Mom's dishes. What amazing blue and white plates! That's my theme this month - blue! And that pitcher is spectacular.

  15. Here's what I love most about this: Your Mom was happy. That counts for so, so much! We go through this life trying hard to please everyone, our parents included. We are never sure that what we are doing in life is quite hitting the mark. And then one day, out of the blue, happiness is found in a blue poinsettia, a white Christmas tree and an impromptu breakfast 'scape born out of love. Life is good, and balance is restored. I really hope I get to meet you in person someday. You are super special, and I know your Mom appreciates the woman you have become. See ya, gal!
