Fall Pillows and Chairs

I moved the furniture around a month ago or so.  I finally decided to share with you a couple of new things.

I wanted a brown pillow for the sofa and found this leather look pair at Pier 1.

While there I spotted the rusty orange beaded leaf pillow and it was on clearance (a hold over from last year $13.97)

To me these had just the right color and personality that I needed for the sofa. 

The white pillow shown in the first picture above doesn't actually stay on the sofa but it looks nice so I presented it that way first. My reality is that it looks like the picture below.

Bloggers try to show things like magazines but this is my reality here- the cats have a small bed and I keep a small blanket above on the pillowback because they like to snooze on the center there.  Each evening they hang out by me while I watch tv.

I've created a new area with the game table which has been in many locations of the room over the years.  More on that in a bit.

This was the day I decided to move everything around.  It's a lot easier with the furniture mover pieces underneath but it's still a lot of work.  The green stripe chest is really difficult- heavy! 

I tried a few different ideas but finally ended up with the sofa by the wall so I could have the two wingback recliners flank it.  I've already figured out that I can put the Christmas tree over by the right side of the tv when that time comes so I'm not going to move this again. Really..... honest.... I won't....  I promise....lol....no seriously I wont!

I used to have two green upholstered chairs that were originally purchased to go with this table.  (Shown below) 

Problem with them was they were too wide to actually go between the table legs.

I found a new chair on Lexington's website and then did a store location search.  I lucked out and found a store fairly close by.

I took the two green chairs to a re-sale shop and they sold the other day so I am tickled about that.  I've had them stored and covered in plastic for several years so I feel good about reducing the extra stuff I have stored and earned some money to boot!

I found this light golden and creamy white zebra pattern and fell in love.  I knew it was going to be an easy fit and I was tickled to get a little animal print in the room.

These chairs can also be used for extra seating at the formal dining table so they'll come in handy for more than one reason.

I did a panoramic shot of the room to better understand the layout.  

I still haven't pulled out my fall deco yet.  The pillows were my first step out here.  

I've been consumed with watching the tv about Hurricane Irma.  My son and his family had been at Disney World for the week.  They left Friday morning and at first the roads were fine but then they found themselves stalled on the freeway so they opted to get creative and jumped off on less traveled roads.  It took a little longer than they anticipated but they finally reached their destination for the day and will be working their way back to Pennsylvania.  I'm so glad they're far away now. 

By the time this is posted this the hurricane will have made landfall.  Praying for everyone especially those who couldn't leave or chose not to.  I have two great-nephews that I just learned are with their mother near Fort Myers and she plans to stick it out in their house.  I'm so scared about what is going to happen.  God help them all. 

Sunflowers Galore! (T)

I went to the Farmer's Market last weekend and picked up these sunflowers and zinnias! 

I wanted to do a tablescape that could be transitional towards fall but not jumping in all the way!

I had the sunflower stemware from Pier 1 tucked away so of course they had to be brought out!

I took all the red zinnias the girl had but two died off already.  I love the color next to the sunflowers!  These sunflowers are holding up great- love it!

I like the deeper purple color mixed in too so these napkins also made it to the table!  The simple galvanized charger created a nice transition between the open weave placemats and the dishes.

The apple was added after I stared at the table a bit and felt I needed another layer.  

It rained all night, was gloomy this morning and then the sun popped out.  I love seeing the sunlight dappled in.

The woven placemats came from Sur La Table when I visited the kids in Pennsylvania in July.  I wanted to keep the table simple since I have a lot going on in the background.

     I recently found this vase at a little store that I'm fond of in Glen Arbor just north of us about 25 miles.  

I chose the dark bamboo flatware because it goes nicely with the dark centers of the sunflowers.  I've had the sunflower plates (T.J.Maxx) for several years.

Sunflowers are in around here right now and so are apples.  Late summer is a wonderful time of the year!

Prayers go out to everyone affected by hurricane Harvey and the newest Hurricane Irma.  Though we are so isolated from all this devastation up north here we are watching and praying for all.

Transitional Look for Kitchen Dining Area

I'm not ready to jump in all the way just yet with fall decorating.  The sunflowers came from the farmer's market and inspired my idea for decorating this area.

I've used the sunflower dishes before and the tall black pitcher that goes with them.

Since apples and sunflowers are currently available it seemed like the perfect transitional look before I go into fall decorating.

I tried a couple of different candles and these won out.  They're a pale green and the ceramic candle holders looked the best after I tried a couple of other ideas.

This stick mat is from Pier 1 and sold as a placemat.  I put two in tandem on the top to look like a runner and it worked out quite well.  I can see this transitioning into a winter  look too!

I snuck a pumpkin in but since it's a metal tone I decided it was neutral looking and could allow it!

I'm still playing around with this area but I got a good enough start to share it.  

I added the owl pitcher after trying various other ideas.  The coloring worked best.  The metal bowl will probably have pumpkins in it before long.

The owl plates came in two colors and I got two of each.  These would work nicely for some cheese and crackers with wine.

I found this plate rack recently and mounted it in the corner under the clock.  I thought it would be a decent spot for it.  

These plates are a favorite so I can enjoy seeing them every day.

It's been raining a lot on and off.  It's hard to get good lighting under the circumstances.  Enjoying every day still full of natural beauty outdoors!

Wet and cool mornings!

September's Sunny Gardens

My previous garden post shows how it looks in the misty mornings and now some pictures on the sunny side!

I'm a little obsessed with the limelight hydrangea out front.  Every year it makes me happy but this year it seems exceptional.  Perhaps it was the mild summer we've had.

I'm so happy these new knockout roses are blooming again.  

Over at the "forgotten garden" I'm in love with these variegated sedum plants. 

Look at their flowers- they start out white! 

The hisbiscus (Rose of Sharon) filled out with a lot more blooms.  

Okay like I said I'm obsessed with the limelight this year.  I love the new red maple we planted too- it's stayed healthy looking all summer and has given the front of the house a whole new look.

Now it's time to think about some other plants I want/need to move.  The side by the woods needs some work done- I just have to convince myself to get it done!
