A Bit of Gold, A Bit of Red, and Poinsettias! (T)

 

Welcome!  Continuing in "red"  I put together this tablescape with a refined yet casual look.

Ugh the lighting was terrible and this was a noon!

A bouquet from Costco that I just cut down and re-arranged.  It was a nice cheerful mix of red, green and white.  I waited for the lilies to start opening but by then the hydrangeas were going down hill, so I cut them back and placed them lower down.

The Merry Christmas placemats came from Home Goods by 34th & Pine, last year.  The red plates are by Lenox and the poinsettias plates (and pitcher) are by 222 Fifth, called Winter Harmony

 

I used the Christmas tree napkin rings from Pier 1 also from last year.  I don't know about anyone else but I'm really not happy with their website and their offerings anymore.  Nothing is "Pier 1" any longer.

 

The candy cane Christmas trees were from Home Goods I think (UPDATE-actually they were from Michael’s) last year too.  I borrowed them from my kitchen window vignette!

These pewter birds were added just for fun and they pick up the coloring of the trivet I used for the florals.

I got the tablecloth from Crate & Barrel a few years back.

The gold rimmed glasses pick up the the gold rimmed dinner plates and the silver picks up on the birds and trivet!  You can mix your metals!

Time to gather!

Getting In The Holiday Mood!

We have been in Pennsylvania again and visited my favorite little garden center with household decorative and holiday items.

I took random shots around the inside store area showing the holiday goodies they had spread out everywhere! 

Some of these trees jumped in my shopping basket! 

Ornaments to attract you like candy in a jar!

Loaded with candles, plants, baskets, dishes and more. 

This place is called Terrain.  It was a local garden center in Glenn Mills, PA.  It used to be called Styers.  If you ask any local where to find Terrain they will reply "Oh Styers".  

Little flowering plants for glass terrariums or such.

My daughter was eyeing up the little mini terrariums.  

They are selling amaryllis that are already started and the bulb is encased in wax and they don't need to be watered.  There are two in this center moss arrangement.

This room area usually has dishes, books and foodie items.

I turned around and noticed all those wreaths tucked up there along the edge of the ceiling. 

I'm itching to own one of these big marble cheese boards.  Just don't like the price!  I think I posted that same thought last time I visited here!

This place is just fun to visit and explore.  Even if you only walked out with a $3.00 ornament you'd be happy having visited.

As we were walking back out I tried to capture a picture of this area.  A frosty winter wonderland of trees, lights, and ornaments. 

Wagon carts loaded with wreaths.  It's all about the presentation- everything seems so much more engaging with how they do it!

Dan loved this wreath. Probably should've bought it. They had baskets full of winterberry in a few areas.  I wanted some but I was concerned with my cats back home getting into them so I passed.

The smell of campfire wood burning in the center area of some Christmas trees.

Those glass cylinders have more of those special amaryllis bulbs sealed in wax.

Great gift item! 

I wanted to buy a poinsettia but with having to travel so far back home I decided to pass.  I loved the rosemary topiaries too! 

I loved these crate displays.  

We actually came all this way to witness our grandson's Christening.  Our daughter and the brother of our daughter in-law were asked to be the Godparents.  There were seven babies being baptized- an it all went so nicely. 

It was a wonderful day! 

I can't wait to get my holiday decorating started!

December Greetings!

Greetings everyone!  Sorry its been a while since I posted.  I hope you are all having a nice December and getting into the holiday spirit!

We were downstate visiting family for our Thanksgiving Day celebration.  On Saturday I had to go visit my favorite garden center and I snapped a few cell phone pictures while I was there.  

These are an orange/red color.

A sea of Poinsettias, Christmas Cactus and Cyclamen

They had a 50% off sale going on which I was surprised about.  They aren't usually so generous this early in the season.

This grouping were all special order and on hold for customers.  Even though I might not like these colors for myself they are interesting.   I think they add a colorant when they water the plant and it draws it up into the leaves and changes the colors.  

Always new varieties each year.  

I like these combos with red, pink and white

Red is my all time favorite poinsettia color so that's the color I picked up for myself.  

My mother loves blue so we bought her this color enhanced version complete with sparkles!

Later that day while at a local shopping center and I loved this display of flowering kale.  The little pansies had been hit by the frost and weren't too perky looking but the kale stole the show anyway!  I looked it up and this one is called Purple Prince Flowering Kale.

My Christmas Cactus already bloomed.  I have an amaryllis potted that hadn't started growing just yet 

in this picture but it's doing well now and looking like it will be blooming for Christmas yay!

I left the pot kind of raw from the outdoor growing season including algae thinking it would look interesting but I think I'll add a layer of Spanish Moss to the top to dress it up.  These will be a very deep red when they bloom.

We've had one measurable snowfall in November (overnight about 8" ugh) but it melted in a few days (thank goodness!).

Generally we've been enjoying some very nice weather.  The morning skies can be so pretty.  

Stay safe and say a prayer for all of these victims and their families that have been affected by these senseless mass shootings both here in the U.S. and abroad.  You might want to watch this video I found on CNN about things to do or not do if you find yourself in one of these horrible situations.
