Some Gave All- Memorial Day 2016 (T)

I placed a flameless tea light inside representing a symbolic eternal flame.

I dressed the table with this oversized flag scarf- I found it last summer at Younker's.  Since it will just be the two of us I kept the table simple.

On a visit to T.J. Maxx a few weeks back I found a package of placemats with a red, white, and blue paisley design that I couldn't resist.

I chose these dishes for a patriotic color combination.

I found these Ralph Lauren cups back in January at T.J. Maxx and I've also collected these crystal tumblers through T.J's also by Ralph Lauren.

I'll probably make the usual potato salad, pasta salad, baked beans and we'll grill dogs, and burgers. Of course we can't forget some pie either!

Thinking about Memorial Day (T)

Memorial Day is coming up quickly.  My mind has been on the outdoors and not inside so I pulled out a couple of tablescape posts from the past for Memorial Day.

2014
In 2014 I chose these restaurant style dishes for a patriotic and picnic like look.
This is the link to the original post "here"
I assembled the floral arrangement from things in my garden.

2015
In 2015 I used the same dishes and created a buffet styled tablescape.

I noticed a common vein as I went through my posts since 2010 around Memorial Day.  I am always busier outside than in!

Next week I will have a new Memorial Day tablescaped pulled together.
Memorial Day is Monday May 30th this year.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Hello everyone!
I've been busy working around my
 gardens and getting caught up
with outside projects.
I haven't been posting much lately
because of it. In fact if you want to know
much about me you will find more on
my garden blog than here!

When I was a kid they used to call the
Iris's "flags" because they usually
bloomed around Memorial weekend.

In the South after the civil war, the
women decorated the graves of loved
ones who lost their lives in battle.
This holiday was known as
"Decoration Day" for many years
but eventually became Memorial Day.

My Dad "1942-1946"
                                        Air Force

Even though this holiday is reserved to
honor and remember those loved ones
who have died in our nation's
service, it has also become a time to
remember those we have otherwise
loved and lost.

Fortunately my Dad did not die during
his military career, but I always think of
him at this holiday and I am always
proud to know he served our country
during one of the most critical
times of our U.S. history.

My brother-in-law who served in the Navy that we recently lost with my nephew Kenny who is also proudly serving in the U.S. Navy.

I hope you all have a memorable weekend!
Don't eat too much or work too hard!

Hang your flags proudly!

ABOUT ME

Welcome to Home and Gardening With Liz. I have combined my previous blogs “Infuse With Liz” and “Sit With Me In My Garden” into this new blog. I love interior decorating and gardening. I enjoy redefining interior spaces by moving things around and reusing decorative items already found in the home. I also enjoy creating tablescapes and an occasional crafting project. I'm so pleased you've stopped by. I invite you to follow me and I do hope you will keep coming back! Liz
