Thanksgiving Accents

I started with the entryway chest.  I swapped out the large striped MC (MacKenzie Childs) pumpkin with my MC turkey I bought a few years ago.

Everything else is the same with the fall garland I draped around the tray that’s hidden below and the little MC checkered pumpkins.

I changed out the pumpkin that was here with another turkey I already had. 

I added a bunch of miniature pumpkins on top of the raffia.

I edited the mantel by removing most of the pumpkins and gourds that I had there and then added the two pheasants.  

I’m already dreaming about Christmas decorating on the mantel.  It seems like everything happens so quickly from this point on!

I got my pheasants at Pier 1 a while back.  I’ve tried to use them in different ways each year. 

I rearranged the pine cone garland that I already had there and adjusted the remaining pumpkins.  I like to pretend the design is mimicking a forest floor. 

I didn’t change the tall arrangement that I introduced in an earlier post this fall. 

This new time change has me screwed up a bit.  It was dark by 6 pm and I had to take pictures with the indoor lights on.  We’re taking off in the morning for my Aunt’s funeral.  I’ll get a chance to see my mom,  sisters and cousins I haven’t seen in a long time.  

Cold Week- November Arrives

The gutters were installed at the end of last week.  We've never had gutters on the house or garage before because of our heavy snow load/melting and ice issues but the contractor swears that they'll hold up just fine.

It's always been a problem when it rains with water dripping straight across the garage so getting into the garage without getting big drips on you was impossible.  

In a weak moment I ordered more tulips.  I wanted to try some in a planter.  I will be moving the big pot into the garage and the plan is to bring it out after about 12 weeks. 

These are narcissus bulbs- big fat healthy ones!

I layered the pot with the bulbs starting with the two types of narcissus (daffodils).  This may be fantastic or an epic fail!

I covered them with a layer of dirt...

Then I put the two kinds of tulips on top and I added fertilizer as I went along for each layer ...

The top layer are the muscari (grape hyacinths).  Each bulb has different requirements for the depth that they are planted.  My biggest problem will be if they freeze out since they are in a planter.  The garage stays a bit warmer than the outdoors but it's still iffy as to whether this will work.

It's full to the top!  Fingers crossed that I'll have a good outcome!  

This was the morning of Halloween!  I thought it was neat how the snow accented everything.

It started snowing a bit more later that morning.

Fortunately it's all melted. This weekend all of these things will be put away.

Sadly another family member has passed so we will be headed downstate for the funeral.  My aunt was 96.  We will rejoice in the full life she lived and at peace knowing she's gone to be with God and re-united with her husband. 

My mom on the left and my aunt on the right many years ago.  My mom is 95 now.  That was an afghan my aunt knitted for my mom.   She gifted my mom with afghans and sweaters each Christmas for many years.

It’s Halloween!

For Halloween I added two terra cotta luminaries to the “Deckorating”.  We found them at a local garden center this summer.  

Halloween night will be a cold one- likely in the lower 30’s with rain/snow.  Poor kids- but we’re used to it up here.  More than once our kids wore a snowsuit under their costumes!  We actually got a little bit of snow today- more like ice pellets.   It stuck to the deck area but it’s melting as soon as it hits the ground. 

We don’t get any trick-or-treaters at our house but if we did I’d be ready!  I always buy some candy during the season- who can resist those little candy bars! 

We’ll be relaxing in our warm home and probably watch some old movies like Dracula and Frankenstein!

Thanksgiving Vignette

I found this adorable gobbler at Pier 1 already marked down.  I was drawn into it's cuteness immediately.  It's loaded with natural feathers and I love the whimsical rosy wreath!

This wood top is on a wall that leads to the basement level.  I always have something on it one way or another.  (I had my cast iron flying pig on display at first but the other picture I took with the turkey picture was blurry)

The little blue pumpkin came from Pier 1 and I wanted to make more use of it so I decided to embellish it with faux berries, gourds, acorns and pine cones.  Kind of a harvest basket look in a small dough bowl.

This whole set up fell together after I was removing things from the kitchen table from one of my tablescapes.  I was piling things on the wood top and I decided to play with it and make more of it.

The turkey is better in person than what their on-line picture reflects.  

I like how the WoodWick Candle crackles ever so much when it's lit.  It burns slowly and the fragrance isn't overpowering.

This will be nice to view through Thanksgiving. 

Next I plan to set up the dining table with a festive Thanksgiving look and add something to the mantel. 

Looks like we'll be staying home for Thanksgiving since my husband will be having cataract eye surgery a few days before Thanksgiving.
