The Art of Sleeping Bear Dunes

My husband's sister Celia is an artist.
With no formal training I've always been impressed with her abilities and so proud for her for this recent accomplishment.
250 artists from around the country submitted their art and after being juried 108 were chosen and hers was one of them!  There was also a book created called "Art of Sleeping Bear Dunes" .  It is published by The Leelanau Press which is dedicated to publishing books about the art and history of the Leelanau County area of northern Michigan.
"Her picture is titled "Imaginary Trail"
All of the artists that were included in this book have their work on display at the Dennos Museum, located here in Traverse City, Michigan. We took a walk through the museum over the Christmas holiday with our daughter and I took a few pictures.
Her picture

This one was at least 8 ft. wide
Some are whimsical
The one on the left looked like melted candle wax

This picture created with quilted fabrics

It was very interesting to see all the different art work and various techniques and materials each artist uses to create their vision.

This is a link to the Sleeping Bear Dunes visitors bureau in case you'd like to know more about the area.

Gone...for a few days

   Gone for a few days...
                   High speed weekend ahead...

Thursday evening
we head down to see the family

 Friday
Attending a memorial service for my
brother-in-law Bob
which would have been his
70th birthday
This is Bob with my nephew Ken who is currently
serving in the Navy.  I sent Bob this sweatshirt
for his birthday a couple of years ago.
The name and number of the ship he served on
is embroidered on it.
(I found an on line company that does
this special order. Militarygifts.com)
The USS John R Pierce, DD753
a destroyer, in the 1960's...
and was there during the
(Bahía de Cochinos) Bay of Pigs Invasion
which led up to the
Cuban Missile Crisis.

SATURDAY
On Saturday we finish packing up our

daughters things
 and on Sunday we head
to Grand Rapids to move her into
her new apartment
 It's a duplex home
built in 1915
and has some great old
original cabinetry and
woodwork

Somewhere in the middle of this fast weekend
I'll see my Mom and sisters.
As usual I am in and out rather quickly...

I've been married for 33 years and lived
away from my family for all of them.

I  also plan to spend
Thanksgiving and Christmas with them
this year...
250 miles each way!

Back on Monday!

Hugs to all!
