January, Sorting and Emptying my Office and Dish closet.

To start with i'm showing you my credenza.  I brought the white rooster back and built the look from there.  I try to find things that go with the picture.

These flower pots are new.  I got them from Terrain.  When I saw them I knew immediately where they were going to go.

So I began emptying out the dish closet in the small bedroom that I took over quite a few years ago.  I emptied everything (in several stages) and determined what I actually used and things that had been just hanging around.  This is just a sampling of everything I went through.  It truly was some of the hardest decisions I've made to let go of a lot of this.  There are stacks of chargers and placemats by the closet too.

This is one side of my closet now.  I also let go of a lot of wine glasses that I had accumulated and kept what I knew I would use for my tablescaping. My husband put this all together and it's supported heavily to take on the weight of all of this.  He made the wine glass rack too.

This is the other half.  I got a whole bunch of metal racks designed to hold pot lids, and rather than storing everything in stacks I was able to get all of the dinner plates on the racks, leaving the salad/dessert  plates to put in front.  I also went through a ton of placemats and chargers that I had accumulated.  I was heavily into Tuscan when I started blogging and I've transitioned to a different style over the years.

Believe it or not this is far more organized than it was.  These are commonly used decorating items and I got them all on this shelf.  I've got more downstairs and that's on the project list too.

There are 4 napkin containers (there was 7) so I let go of a lot of them. Extra silverware is on the bottom and some more deco stuff.  The art on the right lower area is from my Grandson.  Forgive the dust I hadn't taken care of that yet.

Thi is a backed up view of my office which also serves as storage for the dishes and deco items.  I was too ashamed to take a picture of it before.  My sewing machine is stuffed underneath the printer.

My backyard garden area is in a frozen state!

Sigh.... can't wait for winter to be over!

  1. Bravo, Liz. That's a wonderful project and a biggie. (Love your little Brit phone booth!) It looks terrific and I love that you have your closet! I need to do exactly the same with all the china in my basement. Your office looks great. I've been trying to do 30 minutes a day in mine and have to tackle the china in the basement. I'm out of shelves and out of control! You have inspired me! Keep cozy up there!

  2. How great you have that storage closet for all your pretty dishes. I have been purging and cleaning out closets and organizing this winter too. Feels good. Happy Friday.

  3. Liz, what an enormous job you are doing! I am a dish nut and really need to go through all of it while I'm still able. This is a great winter project. Motivation to do such a big job eludes me.

  4. What a wonderful finished project you have there! I love your storage and you got a lot done. I have a bunch to do yet but with this family situation with John's brother I haven't got anything done.

LOVE the sculptural beauty of the picture of you benches covered with snow. xo Diana

  5. It's so hard to go through our beloved things but purging can also make you feel good. I have a lot of dishes in sets of 4. Since our move, I use our dining room table now and need sets of 6 or 8. I've been thinking of doing some purging myself. Your garden looks beautiful even in the winter. Love those storks standing in the snow. Stay warm! Zenda

  6. Real life! Love it, Liz. I can imagine how tough those decisions would be. I have a sister who loves getting my purged items, but she's nearly buting at the seams now. Here I am accumulating a little bit more....and bringing things from storage until there is no more room comfortably in our new home. I need a few more good pieces for storage. I know them when I see them !

  7. Liz, you have been busy. How great Dan had made the closets into dish storage unit. The wine rack is great. It always feel good to purge and organize. Winter is a great time to do this. Your yard looks like a winter wonderland. Spring is already on the way here. I see a few Lady bank roses and the daffodils are coming up. Happy weekend.

  8. Hi Liz! Oh, you have really been on a organizing stage! How nice it all looks and to have it all right where you can pull it out when you need it. I so miss having some storage space here in our little house. We have a 3rd area in our garage and with my shelves, that's where I can keep my decor things. Your snow is so pretty but I sure don't miss it!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  9. Liz, I hate all that snow. But wow, I am loving your dishes. I really like the white accents you have with the rooster. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  10. Liz, what a big and difficult job (letting go). Love your idea of using pot lid racks to organize plates rather than stacking. So much easier to see what you have! Gonna see if I can apply that anywhere in my own storage.

Thank you for your comments! I don’t always get a chance to reply but I do read them!
