Luncheon-time for Soup! (T)

Two classics - buffalo plaid and paisley!  I used the galvanized charger to create a subtle transition between the two patterns.  Tiny checked red napkins with pewter napkin rings help repeat color and texture.  The glass snowflake coffee mugs can be used for coffee, tea or hot cocoa. The little blue tid-bit plates work perfectly as a saucer for the mugs.

Using my three tier stand I created a decorative centerpiece that also has some functionality for the dining experience!

Starting on top is my favorite little "Porcelain China Vendor- Incense Smoker" piece that Dan bought me during one of our visits to Frankenmuth.  I keep him displayed under a glass dome but today he's holding centerstage!

I thought a candle would be nice so I added some pine cones for a rustic touch...

I put saltine crackers in this crystal gravy server which will be easy to pass around.

He comes apart in two pieces.

You set a little cone shaped incense piece on the round metal plate and air comes up through the back hole to help keep it burning and the smoke escapes through the mouth.

I didn't have the proper kind of cone shaped incense so I used a piece of regular incense that I broke as small piece off of to light.  It probably produced more smoke than the other kind but I wanted to demonstrate how it works.

I chose soup bowls because  I was thinking about making soup after reading a post by my blogger friend Martha Ellen at "The Joy of Home With Martha Ellen" who posted a recipe for her Chicken and Wild Rice Soup.

Well there you have it!
Eat well and stay warm!!

  7. OK, so maybe it’s the pain meds talkin’, but when I first saw the incense smoker I thought it was a bong!!!!! I thought, “Hmmm...when did pot become legal in Michigan, and why is she wasting it that way?” Obviously my mind is out of control right now. I clearly need to get well soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a terrific post-holiday table that speaks to the winter weather but doesn’t feel like Christmas. Nice!

  10. I really like how the blue and white china is repeated in the china sold by the vendor and the soup bowls and then again in the tablecloth and flatware. Then the charger and the buffalo plaid add just enough contrast. Very nice.

  11. What a fun table for Winter. I recognized your smoking man immediately. I have 3 that I put out with my collectible nutcrackers at Christmas. One is a Santa about the size of your vendor. I still have a partial box of the incense cones from 80s when I first started collecting. He is very nice and probably a retired piece if you've had him very long. Alycia's idea isn't far off the mark and funny.

  13. Hi Liz,

This post is great and so is your table setting! I love everything about it! The blue and white soup bowls are so pretty, and I never seem to tire of blue and white. That is one of the cutest German smokers I've ever seen. I have a Santa Claus with his bag of toys that my in-laws brought me from the Christkindl market in Munich many years ago. I never burn mine because I'm afraid I'll mess it up. Yours is just charming! That's such a pretty and elegant candle you've paired with the pine cones. Your tiered server is SO pretty -- makes me want to trot out and buy one. :) Thanks so much for your visit and kind comment on my Christmas table; I apologize for not getting back to you sooner.

    Have a great weekend!

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor
