Gardener's Gather for a Summer Luncheon (T)

4 gardening friends are getting together for an afternoon luncheon.  I created a gardening themed centerpiece and designed around it.

The flowery accents on the table were chosen based on the colors in the centerpiece.  Usually my centerpiece is created based on the tablecloth or dishes I choose.

This arrangement was inspired by a set of garden tools that I saw on the MacKenzie Childs web site.  They wanted $45 for them.  I adore them (but didn't like the price) so I went on a hunt and found a set at Target ($19.99).  As soon as I found them I was struck at how similar the shape of the pieces were differing only by the floral design.  They seem too pretty to really use but they could be!  I staged them in a clay pot with a foam block below and stuffed newspaper around the pieces to help them stand up.  Then I created a seal with shipping tape (preventing the sand from falling through) so I could pour the brown sand mixture on top.

The melamine salad plates are from Pier 1 (two summers ago).  A caesar salad with warm seasoned chicken slices laid on top sounds good with a square of upside down pineapple cake to follow!

I never imagined mixing these dishes with this tablecloth but I think it worked great!

A cool drink to enjoy on a warm day.  Some ice will be added!

I used my real gardening gloves as an accent and I added in a small potted sunflower for a pop of color.  The large mason jar is holding faux Poppies (from Pottery Barn a long while back) and Queen Anne's Lace which is actually blooming all around here right now.

I found this table cloth at Macy's several years ago on clearance.  It's made by Vera.  I used this on one other tablescape that I did outdoors "here" in 2012.  I think the colors worked well with the garden tool set and I love the vintage style artsy look it has.

I chose the wicker chargers to compliment the wood box and of course their texture is perfect for a summer table.

Thank you for joining my "Gardener's Gather for a Summer Luncheon"!

  2. Oh, I love it all! The elements and colors work together perfectly. I especially like the tools and gloves in the centerpiece. Reminds me that I've lost my hand clippers somewhere in the yard!
