Celebrating and Remembering Mothers

I had a full weekend of visiting with the family and a very nice Mother's Day.
I didn't get to see my own kids but that's how life is these days.

I brought down plants and potted them up around my Mother's home.  We 4 sister's are sharing the cost and they all know I enjoy doing this so that was fun for me!  We had a lot of rain throughout the weekend so we couldn't gather outside under the gazebo or at the dining set.  The plants will get a good start this way so that's a bonus!  I found the metal peacock by the house and brought it over to join with the big blue cobalt planter and the stepping stone that I decided would make a nice vignette together.

I brought my three tier white stand, the floral arrangement I put together from Easter, a tablecloth and placemats.  Then I pulled out Mom's fine china (Remembrance by Mikasa) and searched the house for some things to add to the centerpiece.
The bottom row of pictures were from dinner.  My sister Jen brought us each a gift.  It's a coffee mug with it's own area to write something on with chalk and it has candy in it too!  My niece Jess made a batch of homemade blueberry muffins with a delicious whipped blueberry topping to go with them and Sherry brought the pineapple and strawberries.   Jen made a Maurice Salad (something we all enjoyed many years ago at Hudson's Dept. store which is no longer around).  I didn't get a picture of it but it was delicious!  We also had fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and an ice cream cake with strawberries for dessert!

For the centerpiece I decided to remember the Mom's in the family that are no longer with us.  I collected some pictures from around the house.  I found a picture of my Mother's Mother (in the wood frame) when she was around 20 yrs. old and two other's she had of her grandmother (shown with the grandfather) and my Dad's mother (who died when he was only 5).
My Mom has a lot of ceramic pitchers so I used this one to pull on the colors of the flowers, placemats and dinnerware.  I added some doilies and draped an orchid on a crystal tray that made a nice vignette with the smaller pictures.  I added a few crystal pieces and found the tall pink candle.  It all seemed to work out well.

There were only 8 of us for this gathering but it was a nice size and we all had a good time.
My brother in-law Jim shown on the left is a very sick man recently diagnosed with liver cancer.  He's being as courageous as he can and we're all praying for him.  If you'd like to add him to your prayers I'd appreciate it.  Mom in the upper left is 92 and doing pretty well.  She gets mixed up here and there and her hearing is going but overall she's in pretty good shape!

It was a whirlwind weekend which also included going through the garage to sort and toss things out that seem to have built up.  We also visited my husband's mother at the farm and saw his brother but I failed to take pictures.   I'm glad to be back home and now it's time for me to get my own flowers planted!
