Easter at Moms

Hello Everyone- I trust you had a nice Easter weekend.

Last Thursday we packed up and went down to spend
the weekend with our family.
I thought I'd share a bit of it with you.
I rounded up a few of my holiday decorations that I hadn't used this year and took them down to give my Mom's home a little splash of Easter.

As you know from my "previous post" I decorated this bunny vase with silk flowers as a gift for my Mom.
I saw this large vase on the dining table and adopted it for a display pedestal.  I stuffed it with a bunch of white grass.  It worked out perfectly to give the vase some height so it would show up better amongst all her candles.

The bunny I brought became a display piece on an antique glass platter.  I used the grass to snuggle things in and my Mom jumped in and tucked in the roses and added the beaded garland.

I dug out her fine china. This is a set Mom and Dad  bought for their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1991.

 It's called Remembrance by Mikasa

I set the table up for 10 (we ended up with 12)
I was rushing all morning so forgive my lack of ironing and attention to details.  I also forgot my camera so I used my cell phone for pictures.

Out in the kitchen I set up the table for the punchEventually I had glasses set out and a coffee pot and the desserts were laid out here too.  It gets so busy with everyone that I forgot to take pictures.

I visualized using this antique punch bowl of Mom's for a display like this. It has a slight crack on the inside and I'm afraid to use it anymore for punch.  I tucked in some fuzzy green rabbits, pink and white grass, silk flowers and a mix of faux Easter eggs.  This punch bowl is over 100 years old and belonged to her Grandmother.  There is also a set of 6 cups that goes with it too.
We used it a lot when I was a child.

I brought my white resin rabbits and Mom and I placed them around the base.  She found these felt Easter egg coasters in my stuff and added those to the design!
It was kind of sweet because I had to slow myself down and offer her something to do....our rolls have reversed.

Later in the evening after dinner my sister Jen gave me this decorated egg that she created for me.  All my sisters and my Mom got one but I only took a picture of mine.  Each one had it's own finish.  She used an Emu egg- it's about 5" tall!  She coated it with Mod Podge and tissue paper for the effect.  I think it looks very Florentine... and I love it!

Earlier in the day Mom came waltzing out of her bedroom with this little box that I've never seen before.  It was my Grandmother's sister Grace's.
She passed away at 10 years old in 1908 of what was described as a brief illness.  I'm imagining pneumonia perhaps from the flu since it was in February.

Grace's name is gently written on the inside of the top.

We believe this was a little sewing kit she had.
There were some Victorian cards inside that were from two of her brother's.

An ivory sewing or weaving needle

It was really interesting to see this box and it's contents.
There were two obituaries.
One for Grace and a brother William Henry that died at the age of 2.
So sad, but times were so much harder back then.

Grace

Sarah, my Grandmother
We aren't 100% sure which sister is which but
we think the top one is Grace.

On the sweetest note of all I got to see our family's
newest members.
A Great Nephew and a Great Niece one from each side of our family, born last November only 10 days apart!

We enjoyed beautiful weather and no snow!
